Discussion of new art piece in Piccadilly Circus

I recently made an update to this page, adding the Frank Pick memorial artwork by Langlands & Bell. These were then reverted as "plugging (my) art exhibition".

I explained to Redrose64 that I have no connection to Art on the Underground, London Underground, TFL or any other transportation body. I am merely a curious individual with an interest in the topic - and a desire to improve the wikipedia articles thereof. They suggested that "the best thing to do is to raise a thread at the talk page". '

'Ergo,' My update was:

In 2016, Art on the Underground commissioned "Beauty < Immortality", an artwork by Langlands & Bell to commemorate Frank Pick, the former CEO of London Transport, on the 75th anniversary of his death.

The artwork is located in a prominent place on the wall of the ticket hall, with a Frank Pick tube roundel and bronze lettering in Johnston, a typeface commissioned by Pick in 1915, which is still used across the London transport network today.^[1] ^[2]

Omission - How was the new ticket hall constructed?

There is no information here about how the new ticket hall was constructed during the 1920s. Eg, was an umbrella bridge used as at Oxford Circus? FreeFlow99 (talk) 09:57, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Too many images

There are currently too many images in the article for the amount of text, such that it is causing issues with images obscuring references, partly caused by a MOS:SANDWICH in that section (which I've fixed by moving the left-aligned image to the right). The images currently used are:

I've removed the roundel images as that's the one I feel was adding the least value. That and moving the ticket hall image to the right have resolved the immediate problem, but I still think there is one image too many. I'm leaning towards the platform image being the least useful of those remaining, given the ticket hall and Pick memorial are both discussed in the prose. If we were to have a platform image, then I think it would ideally be the Bakerloo line platforms as that unusual layout is discussed, but I don't support adding it while the article is the present length. @Thryduulf: Thank you, much better, I wasn't sure if it was just my mac book screen size there. Yep, I don't think we need the image of the roundel either. I did the Hidden London there today, I didn't see anything on the unique map on the page. Maybe a better photo of that is needed? There is ltmuseum pdf, the article next to a lot of other tube station articles seems a little on the neglected side. I hope it gets more TLC in the future. There are also shop units in this station which isn't discussed in the article and some other features not talked about. The fact the statue of Eros is not Eros, and they lost the original Eros so they told us. Cheers, Govvy (talk) 19:46, 12 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
